Reflections on 2024: Spiritual Growth and Healing at Church of the Spirit Chicago

As I stepped into the serene sanctuary of the Church of the Spirit in Chicago for the first time this year, I had no idea how profoundly my journey would shift. Seeking answers, connection, and a sense of belonging, I found myself drawn to the principles of the National Spiritualist Association of Churches (NSAC). Reflecting on 2024, I see how these principles illuminated my path, and as 2025 dawns, I welcome its promise with renewed faith and intention.

This past year, life brought its share of challenges and growth. As I look back, I see how the NSAC principles served as both guideposts and anchors, helping me navigate my spiritual awakening:

1. We believe in Infinite Intelligence.

This principle helped me see the divine thread woven through every moment of 2024. By recognizing Infinite Intelligence as the creative force behind all life, I found comfort in knowing that even in life’s uncertainties, there is purpose and order.

2. We believe that the phenomena of Nature, both physical and spiritual, are the expression of Infinite Intelligence.

Walking by the lake or gazing at the sky, I felt a deeper connection to nature. These moments reminded me that all forms of life are sacred manifestations of Spirit, and they inspired awe for the beauty and complexity of the world around me.

3. We affirm that a correct understanding of such expression and living in accordance therewith constitute true religion.

Through the teachings at the Church of the Spirit, I realized that living in harmony with natural laws fosters growth and fulfillment. This understanding encouraged me to align my choices with universal truths, cultivating inner peace.

4. We affirm that the existence and personal identity of the individual continue after the change called death.

This principle brought me profound comfort. The idea that life and love endure beyond physical form transformed my grief into hope, knowing that our connections remain unbroken.

5. We affirm that communication with the so-called dead is a fact, scientifically proven by the phenomena of Spiritualism.

Experiencing mediumship for the first time this year was life-changing. The messages I received affirmed the presence of loved ones in Spirit, offering guidance and reassurance that they are always near.

6. We believe that the highest morality is contained in the Golden Rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

The Church community lives by this principle, and their kindness inspired me to reflect on my own actions. Striving to embody this rule in my interactions has deepened my relationships and brought greater harmony to my life.

7. We affirm the moral responsibility of individuals and that we make our own happiness or unhappiness as we obey or disobey Nature’s physical and spiritual laws.

2024 taught me accountability. I began to see how my thoughts, words, and actions shape my reality and took steps to align them with love, understanding, and growth.

8. We affirm that the doorway to reformation is never closed against any soul, here or hereafter.

This truth gave me hope during difficult moments. Knowing that growth and healing are always possible, no matter the circumstances, encouraged me to extend grace to myself and others.

9. We affirm that the precepts of Prophecy and Healing are Divine attributes proven through Mediumship.

The healing power of Spirit was palpable in the December 22, 2024 sermon by Interim Co-Pastor Audrey Williams. She spoke passionately about the law of love as the foundation of spiritual growth, a creative force that can drive out hatred, mend brokenness, and grant forgiveness. Her words reminded me of the transformative power of love, which I witnessed through Spirit communication and spiritual healing this year.

As we prepare to welcome 2025, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and hope. This new year is a blank canvas, and the principles of Spiritualism provide the brushstrokes to create a life imbued with meaning and purpose. Here are the intentions I’m setting for the year ahead:

Deepen Spiritual Practice

In 2025, I plan to dedicate more time to meditation, prayer, and study. I’ve learned that the more I nurture my spiritual connection, the more clarity and peace I find in everyday life.

Strengthen Community Bonds

The Church of the Spirit has shown me the beauty of shared faith and fellowship. In the coming year, I hope to contribute more actively, whether through volunteering, attending events, or simply offering a kind word to those in need.

Embrace Personal Responsibility

With the wisdom of 2024 behind me, I step into 2025 with the intention to live more consciously. I aim to make choices that reflect my highest self, honoring both my journey and the interconnectedness of all beings.

Celebrate Eternal Progress

This year, I want to celebrate growth—both mine and others’. Whether through small victories or significant milestones, I’ll cherish the steps we all take toward spiritual evolution.

As I stand on the threshold of 2025, I am filled with gratitude for the Church of the Spirit and the teachings of Spiritualism. This journey has transformed my perspective, inviting me to see life not as a series of random events but as a purposeful, sacred unfolding.

To anyone considering stepping through the doors of this church for the first time, I encourage you to take that leap. You may find, as I did, a place where your spirit feels seen, where your questions are honored, and where your soul begins to bloom.

May 2025 be a year of light, love, and limitless possibility for us all. Together, as a community, we will continue to grow, guided by Spirit and united in purpose.
